Find out how to get your cartons recycled into building materials
Melbourne, Australia – 27 November 2023: Tetra Pak, a global food and beverage packing company, and local recycler, saveBOARD, have been named as the recipients of the Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce’s award for Excellence in Partnership and Collaboration for 2023.
The awards acknowledge the very best within the Swedish-Australian business community, with the partnership between Tetra Pak and saveBOARD being recognised as an example of an outstanding innovation contributing to positive change in society and advancing the circular economy.
In February 2023, Tetra Pak and saveBOARD officially opened Australia’s first recycling facility for used beverage cartons located in Warragamba, New South Wales. The facility processes post-consumer recycled cartons into low-carbon construction materials and has already processed over 365 tonnes of beverage cartons since full commissioning.
Boris Munster, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Oceania, commented on the award: “We’re incredibly proud to have received this award alongside our valued partner, saveBOARD. Our collaboration serves as an incredible example of an innovative solution to convert carton packaging waste into useful applications and contribute to a strong circular economy.
“The new facility in Warragamba is a vital investment into the recycling infrastructure which will drive improvements in recycling outcomes for years to come and is a key example of Tetra Pak’s commitment to sustainability. Cartons are already a beverage packaging choice with one of the lowest carbon footprints on the market* and through our partnership with saveBOARD, consumers can see first-hand how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.”
saveBOARD CEO Paul Charteris says the achievement shows the company’s contribution to recycling and sustainability on an international scale. “We have a lot more to learn and trial as we continue to develop the product and its possibilities with existing and new clients, but we are very happy to receive both of these awards.”
The award from the Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce is not the first acknowledgement saveBOARD and Tetra Pak have received for their recycling innovation. The companies also received the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation’s (APCO), Improved Recycling Systems Award for the first of its kind carton recycling facility earlier this month.
