The Tetra Pak® Drum Drainer 2 is designed to ensure a gentle draining of washing- and cooling water from cottage cheese curd. The unique construction with a combination of a drainage screen, a woven belt and a pressing drum, with adjustable pressure, ensures the presentation of dry curd.
Inlet design
The drum drainer inlet has a kite-shaped plate that evenly distributes curd onto the pre-draining screen. Even distribution is crucial to efficient draining. The inlet also delivers the mixture to the screen at the optimal angle for draining.
Pre-draining screen
The pre-draining screen is designed with a triangular cross-section, which gives several advantages. When the curd lands on the screen, it creates a gentle vibration that helps the water drain away. It also helps spread the curd evenly across the plate. This design separates the whey so efficiently that the curd is almost fully de-wheyed before reaching the belt.
Pressing control
The pressure of the belt against the drum is set automatically, but the operator can raise or lower it by making an adjustment on the control panel - applying his or her expertise to ensure the remaining free water is removed from the curds.
Draining belt
The draining belt is made of woven polypropylene with tiny holes between the fibres. This means all the water drains off efficiently, but even the smallest pieces of curd are retained. The speed of the belt can be varied to match the capacity of other equipment on the line.
