To contribute to sustainable food value chains while addressing the global challenges associated with food security and nutrition, fostering collaborative relationships and engaging with diverse networks of stakeholders is crucial. In this pursuit, we have actively collaborated and continue to engage with various organizations and alliances.
WFP and Tetra Pak have a long history of collaboration, sharing best practices in school feeding programmes worldwide. WFP and Tetra Pak have signed a Letter of Intent in Latin America, and Tetra Pak is actively supporting the Latin American School Feeding Network. WFP implemented a Sida-funded Milk for Schools pilot in Zambia. Tetra Pak Food for Development provided technical assistance in sharing food safety best practices to WFP for Syria's emergency school milk programme. In Burundi, Tetra Pak and WFP collaborated on a school meals programme boosting 20,000 children.
Following an official policy paper from the World Food Programme (WFP), that supports the use of UHT milk in their school feeding operations, Tetra Pak is part of a school meals programme to boost nutrition for 20,000 children in central Burundi.
The EU provides €5 million for the WFP to purchase up to one-third of the required food commodities from local smallholders in the Gitega province. Our customer, the newly founded local company, Modern Dairy Burundi, is supplying fresh milk in Tetra Fino® Aseptic 200ml packages.
