TETRA PAK INVESTS €300,000 IN RECOMA’S FACILITY TO BOOST BEVERAGE CARTON RECYCLING. 

Hässleholm, Sweden, 15 April 2025 – Recoma, a Swedish company specialising in the production of construction boards from recovered materials such as beverage cartons, is expanding its operations with an additional processing line for recycled beverage cartons. With investment support from Tetra Pak, this will increase production capacity and optimise material use in the manufacturing process.

A key challenge Recoma faces when processing post-consumer cartons and PolyAl—the polyethylene and aluminium layers found in beverage cartons—is managing humidity. To address this and improve efficiency, Recoma is investing in a high-efficiency dryer for both its new and existing processing lines.

“The investment in a second processing line is an important step in scaling up our operations. By increasing our production capacity and enhancing material processing, we aim to create a stable supply of high-quality boards that meet market demands in the Nordics.” says Max Rosengren, CEO of Recoma.

Recoma’s building materials are made from a mix of PolyAl, whole beverage cartons, and other spill material from production. The PolyAl is sourced from the Ostrołęka recycling facility in Poland, while the beverage cartons come exclusively from Sweden, with plans to incorporate materials from Norway and Denmark in the future.

By supporting Recoma in scaling up their operations, we contribute to the increased utilisation of used beverage cartons and PolyAl in new applications,” says Gustav Askman, Sustainability Manager Nordics at Tetra Pak.

Tetra Pak is supporting this initiative with a €300,000 investment, aimed at enabling the successful installation of the dryer and achieving a specified volume of PolyAl processed over the next three years. The investment will enable Recoma to increase its yearly waste processing from 5,000 to 10,000 tonnes. The doubling of the processing capacity and the installation of the new dryer is planned for summer 2025 t Recoma’s facility in Hässleholm.

Life cycle analysis of Recoma’s products shows an 80–90% reduction in CO₂ emissions (GWP/CO₂e) compared to conventional board materials.
