Metal can vs carton has been a major topic of discussion in Norway. In 2018, Unil, the brand house of NorgesGruppen, the largest retail group in the country, announced that it would phase out metal cans for its own brands of canned foods, canned fruit and vegetables and canned pet food. Unil has set a target to switch 100 percent of all metal cans to other alternatives such as cartons.
