Dairygold Co-operative, one of Ireland’s leading dairy companies, has focused on making its production more efficient and sustainable for several years. One step on their path has focused on the cleaning-in-place (CIP) processes and reducing water and chemical consumption. Filtration technology makes it possible for them to recover up to 90% of the caustic soda commonly used for CIP. Instead of being sent to waste, the chemical can be reused in the cleaning process. This radically reduces the cost of caustic soda, but also removes the need to add acid, otherwise needed to neutralise the wastewater. On top of that, Dairygold also deployed solutions to reduce water consumption and heat load.
