We are committed to reach net zero GHG emissions in our own operations by 2030, with a similar aspiration across our value chain by 2050. As a large share of the GHG emissions in our value chain come from raw materials and transportation, we work closely with our suppliers to identify opportunities to reduce emissions, both in their operations and throughout their own supply chains.
Our supplier initiative “Join us in protecting the planet”, which includes 45 of our base material suppliers (covering 90% of the base materials we purchase) sets out a range of actions. The aim is to reduce the emissions of the base materials we purchase by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019.
We also aim to ensure that our material suppliers get certified against the new Science-based target initiative’s (SBTi) Corporate Net-Zero Standard, the world’s first framework for corporate net-zero target setting in line with climate science and consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Eight of our partners now have their climate targets approved by the SBTi in line with the 1.5° ambition.
By partnering with us on its sustainability transition, SIEGWERK, a leading ink supplier, uses 95% renewable electricity at the site where ink used by Tetra Pak is produced.
