Our Zero Waste Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of National Education, TEMA Foundation (The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats) aims to familiarize children across the country with the concept of zero waste and raise awareness about the ways of reducing and reusing waste, as well as using resources more efficiently.
Through the face-to-face trainings organized as part of the project, 16,000 pre-school and primary school students from 20 cities were reached from April to December 2019. By adapting the training program to the pandemic conditions, online training sessions were conducted with 20,000 students in 24 cities in 2020.
Covering the topics of natural asset protection and waste prevention, the training module called “5Ds for a Sustainable Life” inspires children to be consciousness about recycling and sustainability.
Launched in October 2019, the project’s digital platform has received over 240,000 unique visitors and reached a total of 1.45 million page views. Through the classroom activities conducted by teachers using the digital training contents and materials on the portal, a total of 235,000 pre-school, primary school, secondary school, and high school students were introduced to the concept of zero waste.
