Rising global demand for sugar has led to an increase in the price of refined sugar. This, in turn, has led to an increase in the demand for on-site refinement of less costly, unrefined sugar. Depending on the purity level of the unrefined sugar, it can be treated in various ways – such as flocculation, flotation or a hot activated carbon treatment process.
We have pioneered the development of a sugar treatment technology called ion exchange. When used in combination with traditional refinement processes, ion exchange makes it possible to process sugar with an ICUMSA level previously not considered 'refineable’.
The technology is now available on a scale and at a price that's suitable for individual food production plants. It opens up new sources of supply at a very low overall cost, and delivers significant savings for the larger production facility.
