Tetra Pak® Drum Unloader is a highly flexible unit designed to unload liquid ingredients from drums, containers or cans into a downstream system by using a pump. The pump is connected with a hose to a suction lance. The mechanical balancing system provides an ergonomic handling of the suction lance. Ingredient remnants left in the concentrate drums can be rinsed with a water gun. The water injection technology allows the fluidization of viscous ingredients locally at the suction lance head so flow rates increase and unloading times decrease significantly.
Tetra Pak Drum Unloader is available with two different pump types and dimensions.
Capacity:
Unloading of drums up to 200 litres.
Max. concentrate viscosity for DN 50 is 10 000 cP.
Max. concentrate viscosity for DN 65 is 30 000 cP.
Typical applications can be:
Unloading of various liquid ingredients like:
Water injection technology
Water injection technology fluidizes viscous ingredients locally at the suction head of the lance so they flow faster – up to two times faster depending on the amount of water injected. A small amount of water is added, which is monitored by a flow meter so the amount can be taken into account when following a recipe. This technology allows a lance diameter of just 66 mm compared to about 100 mm normally needed for viscous ingredients.
Small lance diameter
Water injection technology allows a lance diameter of just 66 mm compared to bigger lances and hoses with the same capacity but without water injection. We calculate that a 66 mm diameter lance with a 5.5 m hose full of concentrate weighs 48 kg. In comparison, a lance and hose of the same length but with a diameter of 100 mm weighs 95 kg when full. Our 66 mm diameter lance and hose therefore weigh almost half, making them much lighter to handle.
Patented suction check valve
Normal non-return valves can affect the efficiency of aspiration by causing a pressure loss, but our unique valve gives minimal pressure loss so the unloader works at a high capacity. You get the benefits of a non-return valve to prevent liquid backflow plus suction is cut off when all the product has been emptied into the lance at the end of unloading the drum. Operators can empty the drum completely and the drum inlay cannot be aspirated by mistake.
Weight balancing system
As standard, there is a weight balancing system for manual positioning of the lance with overhead mechanical support. Only a little manual effort is required to move the lance, thus ensuring smooth handling for operators.
No tipping or lifting of the drums is required as the drums can be unloaded while standing on the floor or on a pallet.
The hose never touches the floor so there is no tripping hazard or risk of damage from trucks.
Unloading at floor level
Do you know about the risks of tipping drums into a tank? Inlays, foreign matter or dirt stuck on the outside surface of the drum can fall off and drop into the product, especially if the tipping arm shakes the drum. Avoid this problem completely with our floor-level solution for unloading. Furthermore, inlays can’t be aspirated with our lance because the suction check valve prevents accidental suction of the inlay or parts of it.
